Energy & Bodywork
for people and animals
All living beings are made up of energy. Every being is a series of subtly interacting energy systems, and if these energy systems become imbalanced there may be resulting symptoms, which manifest on the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual planes. When the energy within our bodies is flowing strongly, we are in health. If the energy gets interrupted or stuck, the area may move into dis-ease.
This concept can be hard for many people to grasp. We all know that if we can’t see it, it’s not real… right? Well, think of your TV or radio. How do these work? We can’t see what makes them work. Yet they work. In the case of the TV or radio, they require electricity to make them work. Our bodies have their own form of “electricity”. The energy, or power, within our bodies is there, and its normal course of action is to flow. So how do we keep this energy flowing? Some basics include good diet and nutrition, manageable stress levels, sunlight, happiness, touch, and any activity that makes us feel fulfilled. Things that stop energy flow include excess stress, poor diet, low self-esteem, illness, worry and unhappiness. Kelley uses various forms of healing in her practice that are becoming more popular within the medical community. Most of this healing work has probably been done for thousands of years around the world, even though it is considered fairly new here. Some forms that Kelley uses with people and animal are listed below:
- Reiki
Reiki is a Japanese word that means “Universal Life Energy” or “God Force”. It is energy that sustains us and keeps us healthy. According to tradition, Reiki originated around 3,000 BC, in what we now call Tibet. Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese theologian, rediscovered the essentials of the system in the mid 1800’s and the traditions have been passed down from generation to generation ever since.
Reiki is different from other forms of energy work in that the energy flows from the universal source rather than from the practitioner. Reiki assists the body in its efforts to maintain balance, resulting in deep relaxation, a feeling of well-being, and a shift toward physical health.
Most people, children and animals deeply enjoy Reiki. There are many benefits of Reiki:
Speeds up healing
Increases energy and stamina
Improves circulation
Aids in restful sleep
Helps detoxify the body
Relaxes the mind and body
Eases emotional upset
Balances the body’s energy systems
Helps relieve pain, spasms and aches
- Chakra Balancing
The concept of the chakras originated in Hindu culture. Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning “wheels of light”. All living things have seven spiraling energy centers located in the physical body. These main energy centers are associated with seven particular endocrine glands and the sympathetic nervous system. Each Chakra has its own color and set of specific emotions that are related to it.
One of the functions of the chakras is to connect the spiritual body to the physical body. Our emotions are the ‘electricity’ or energy of the body, and the Chakras respond to our emotions. When an emotion is out of balance for an extended period time, the energy can become stuck, or overflowing in the relating chakra system.
The Chakras can be balanced in many different ways. Reiki is constantly cleaning and balancing our chakras. Food, color, sound, crystals, kinesology, aromatherapy, yoga, reflexology, and yantras can all help to clear and balance the Chakras.
Kelley uses kinesiology, Reiki, essential oils, crystal and color to help balance the Chakras of both human and animal clients.
- Acupressure
Acupressure is the practice of stimulating certain energy points of the body on both humans and animals. It uses the same energy points as acupuncture, but uses pressure without utilizing the insertion of needles.
The source of acupressure lies in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). TCM treats the mind-body-spirit as a single entity in harmony within itself and the environment. TCM was developed as a preventive form of treatment.
Acupressure is a noninvasive, gentle treatment process. It offers you a way to actively participate in you and your animal’s health.
Acupressure has the ability to help:
Release endorphins necessary to reduce pain
Relieve muscle spasms
Resolve injuries more readily by removing toxins and increasing blood supply
Enhance mental clarity required for focus in training and performance
Release natural cortisone to reduce swelling
Build the body’s immune system
Kelley may use acupressure on horses as part of her work.
- Myofascial Release Therapy
Myofascial release therapy is a form of manual bodywork that addresses restrictions in the connective tissue, or fascia, of the body. The fascia is an extremely tough tissue that surrounds every muscle, bone, organ, nerve, and blood vessel, down to the cellular level.
Myofascial release therapy utilizes gentle, kneading manipulation that softly stretches, softens, lengthens and realigns fascia.
Injuries, stress, inflammation, trauma, and poor posture can cause restriction to fascia. Since fascia is an interconnected web, the restriction or tightness to fascia at a place, with time, can spread to other places in the body like a pull in a sweater. The goal of myofascial release is to release fascia restriction and restore its tissue health.
Kelley is trained to perform Myofascial release on horses.
- Flower Essences
Flower essence remedies are liquid remedies produced from flowers. They are vibrational in nature and work on a subtle but effective level. Flower essences directly address the emotions and personality patterning of animals and people. Each individual remedy is geared to a specific negative mental/emotional state and has the power to transfer it into a positive emotional and physical outcome.
Dr. Edward Bach is credited with discovering the original Bach Flower Essences. He has been a leading pioneer in the work of flower essences that many others have followed.
When treating children and pets it is important to consider that the illness and emotional states are strongly influenced by connections with the children’s parents and the pet’s owners. When treating a child or animal with flower essences the parent or owner should be taking the same remedy.
